A contemporary take on the classic Japanese teapot (kyūsushape, while being easy to use and in colours for a modern lifestyle.

It's practical in its design with lovely, graceful proportions. Glazed surfaces. Thin-walled sides. Controlled, drip-free pouring. Comfortable handles.

During or a trip to Japan, we met with the makers of these teapots and are proud to supply you with these high-quality handmade Tokoname pots directly from Japan. Tokoname teapots are instantly recognizable from their thin vessel walls; exquisite, fine detail work on lids, spouts and handles and perfect balance.

All of our Tokoname teapots are handmade by master potters and are stunning pieces of teapot design and function.

To brew the best tea, your teapot must be cleaned after every use.

Before using – When you receive your new teapot rinse inside and outside with warm to remove any little bits of clay from the production.

Cleaning is easy – After each session of steeping tea in your teapot, remove the tea leaves (they make great compost). Rinse the teapot with warm water to clean the inside. If there are little bits of leaf stuck after rinsing, turn your teapot over and let it safely air dry on a kitchen towel on your countertop, then brush them out with a soft brush.

A few more pointers:

  • Please do not put in the dishwasher as the chemicals and are far too corrosive for the clay.

  • Dont scrub the teapot with an abrasive cleaner or abrasive cleaning pad. A soft, damp cloth and gentle rubbing should remove any stains that might develop on the outside of the teapot.

  • While these teapots are used in Japan for green teas such as Sencha and Gyokuro, most other plain teas such as Chinese green, yellow, and black teas, and oolongs will steep well in Tokoname clay.

  • Please avoid using strongly perfumed or flavoured teas such as Classic Early Gery, Peppermint, Chai of Ghana, Jasmine Pearl etc in your Tokoname teapot as these teas will leave residual flavour embedded in the clay of your teapot.
