Tea for skin health
Who doesn't want to glow? There are a lot of components to skin health, and hydration is one of them for sure. For some extra oomph, here are our favourite nourishing teas that are thought to have a benefit for your skin health.
To keep your skin healthy, it's recommended you:
- Get enough good quality sleep
- Look after your mental health
- Eat a varied and nutritious diet high in protein, good fats and vitamins
- Moderate your consumption of processed and sugary foods
- Stay sun safe, those UV rays are not good for your skin
And our favourite - Hydrate! Water is a great option for hydration, but you can also add tea into your routine to benefit your skin health, to add some extra oomph with the minerals, antioxidants and other properties. Here are some of our favourites for skin health:
Chamomile - not only great for your sleep and stress levels which flow on to skin health, chamomile also has anti-inflammatory & antioxidant properties that make a great option to drink and use topically. From eczema to acne and anti-aging, the antimicrobial and soothing properties make it a great option for skin health. The antioxidant apigenin in chamomile tea is anti-inflammatory and it can even help with wound healing and reducing scars.
Rooibos - rich in zinc, antioxidants and alpha-hydroxy this is particularly good for anti-aging and acne.
Peppermint - great for hormonal acne, peppermint has menthol which slows the release of sebum on your skin. It promotes skin cell turnover, helping you with that glow!
White and purple tea - being the highest in antioxidants, this can slow collagen and elastin breakdown making it a great anti-aging option. Purple tea is promoted as having anti-aging benefits, evening out skin tone, oxygenation of the skin and being beneficial for digestion and metabolism.
Jasmine and green tea - Being high in ECGC, a powerful antioxidant that may reactivate dying skin cells, green tea reduces inflammation and protects against UV damage. This makes a great option for acne and slowing skin ageing.
Hibiscus Blossom - not only great for sleep, weight loss and stress, hibiscus blossom has anthocyanins which stimulate elastin production for youthful skin. A great source of vitamin C, it is also great for increasing collagen production.
